With their dazzling fourth album Make A Scene, Winnipeg combo Sweet Alibi masterfully deliver soulful roots-pop elevated by the luminous vocal harmonies of Jess Rae Ayre, Amber Nielsen, and Michelle Anderson. Produced by Matt Peters and Matt Schellenberg (a.k.a. members of indie-pop squad Royal Canoe who produce under the Deadmen moniker), Make A Scene weds rich lyrical themes to wildly accessible songs such as the propulsive “Confetti,” which occupied the Top 20 of CBC Radio 2’s national chart for an impressive eight weeks, building on previous airplay Sweet Alibi enjoyed on satellite and terrestrial radio. Bassist Alasdair Dunlop and drummer Sandy Fernandez round out the acclaimed Western Canadian Music Award winners, whose We’ve Got To album scored 2014’s Roots Duo/Group Recording of the Year. Watch for Sweet Alibi on tour in 2022 and beyond.

about

This song is about living a touring life, and being away from home often, but finding a sense of home on the road. So many fans that start out as strangers become friends, and give a sense of comfort every time we visit their city.

lyrics

Three thousand miles from home
In a beat up car and stoned
Is this who I thought I'd become
The dream seemed easier when I was young

Another long drive to go
To watch strangers smiling at me in rows
They ask is it hard living like the wild ones
So I tell em' a bit about where I'm from

Momma's here Daddy's there the only thing that stays is the next somewhere.
Momma's here Daddy's there the only thing that stays is the next somewhere

Oooo

Checking in to see what I owe
I've come too far to quit and fold
Some nights get me so done
Going to bed with the rising sun

One day I'll build a home
I can't put down this life I've chose
Oh this way is only made for some
For those who like being paid in love

Momma's here Daddy's there the only thing that stays is the next somewhere
Momma's here Daddy's there the only thing that stays is the next somewhere
Momma's here Daddy's there the only thing that stays is the next somewhere
Momma's here Daddy's there the only thing that stays is the next somewhere

Oooo

The only thing that stays is the next somewhere the only thing that stays
The only thing that stays is the next somewhere the only thing that stays
The only thing that stays is the next somewhere the only thing that stays
The only thing that stays is the next somewhere the only thing that stays

about

Sweet Alibi Winnipeg, Manitoba

There is more than a touch of magic in the luminous vocal harmonies powering the soulful roots pop of Winnipeg combo Sweet Alibi.
The voices of Jess , Amber and Michelle are tightly braided together, as they are in the super-sticky title track of their dazzling fourth album, Make A Scene, or are ornamenting Ayre’s lead on the gorgeously propulsive and contemplative “Slow Down,”
